Discussion Questions

  1. There are some obvious questions specific to the film that we will deal with in class. The questions I’d like you to think about in advance are as follows:
  2. What is the role of technology in the film? Is it under human control?
  3. Which characters in the film are the most effective? Which are the sanest? Can any of the characters in the film be related to real historical individuals? (Hint: one is mentioned in the Edwards reading).
  4. What can we learn from the attitudes to technology shown here that may explain the development and adoption of computer technology elsewhere?
  5. How is the conflict in this film different from that in World War II (less than twenty years earlier)? Do you agree that this transition deservers to be called “revolutionary”?
